Sinopse: Michael Clayton (George Clooney) trabalha numa das maiores firmas de advocacia de Nova York, tendo por função limpar os nomes e os erros de seus clientes. Tendo trabalhado anteriormente como promotor de justiça e vindo de uma família de policiais, Clayton é o responsável por realizar o serviço sujo da firma Kenner, Bach & Ledeen, que tem Marty Bach (Sydney Pollack) como um de seus fundadores. Apesar de estar cansado e infeliz com o trabalho, Clayton não tem como deixar o emprego, já que o vício no jogo, seu divórcio e o fracasso em um negócio arriscado o deixaram repleto de dívidas.
